Lyme Disease Educational Materials and Strategies for Health Educators


The following are suggested activities and educational materials to assist you in getting the word out about Lyme Disease in your community.

If you have a fun or innovative educational program that is not listed on this page, and would like to share it, please contact the Center for Veterinary Public Health (cvph@dhmh.state.md.us).  We would like to hear from you.

Educational Activities

  • May is Lyme Disease Awareness Month.
  • Write a short article in your local newspaper on preventing diseases spread by ticks.
  • Provide doctors in your local jurisdiction with LD awareness information.
  • Contact, remind, and provide information to schools.  Encourage school health or science teachers to incorporate LD information in their science curricula.
  • Arrange seminars and distribute brochures, flyers, and other educational materials to outdoor groups such as Boy Scouts/Girl Scouts, camp operators, active senior groups and hunting/fishing licensing entities.
  • Create a partnership with your local Department of Parks and Recreation.
  • Distribute brochures and flyers to camping stores, sporting good stores and pet stores prior to the start of the LD season.
  • Distribute brochures and flyers to local veterinary clinics and SPCA offices.
