Vision
The Center for Veterinary Public Health (CVPH) envisions a future
that includes:
- Minimal animal disease and human disease in Maryland citizens,
with subsequent reduced risk of zoonotic and vector-borne disease
transmission between animals, vectors, and humans
- Public knowledge about and associated impact of rabies, other
zoonotic diseases, and vector-borne diseases in Maryland.
Mission Statement
To reduce the incidence and associated human and animal impact
of rabies, other zoonotic diseases, and vector-borne diseases in
Maryland
What is a zoonotic disease?
Zoonotic diseases (also called zoonoses) are diseases of animals
that can be transmitted to humans. Many zoonotic diseases require
a vector (such as a mosquito or tick) in order to be transmitted
from the animal host to the human host.
