Maryland's Arbovirus Surveillance Testing Results 2007

The 2007 surveillance season runs from June 1 - October 31, 2007
Arbovirus = arthropod-borne virus

Avian:

The Maryland Department of Health & Mental Hygiene has discontinued its dead bird surveillance program. The U.S. Department of Defense and the Maryland Departments of Agriculture and Natural Resources continue to monitor WNV and other disease activity in wild and captive birds throughout the State.

No birds have tested positive for WNV in 2007.


Equine:

No horses have tested positive for WNV infection in 2007.


Mosquito Pools (Pool = group of mosquitoes):

Six (6) pools of mosquitoes have tested positive for WNV in Maryland.

See table for details.


Humans:

Ten cases (6 confirmed, 4 probable) have been reported in Maryland in 2007.
