Practice Makes Perfect


Maryland Immunization Professionals Training
Sponsored by the Maryland Partnership for Prevention

The Practice Makes Perfect (PMP) Maryland Immunization Professionals Training was developed by the Maryland Partnership for Prevention, Maryland’s statewide immunization coalition, to provide health professionals with comprehensive resources to support the promotion and safe administration of vaccinations.

Description

Practice Makes Perfect is a FREE, half-day training session that provides an overview of the topics that are important to safely and effectively providing immunizations, including:

  • Vaccine recommendations for children, adolescents, and adults;
  • Child Care and School Immunization Requirements;
  • Vaccine Storage and Handling; and
  • Maryland Vaccines For Children Program

All trainings are scheduled from 9:00 am - 1:15 pm, unless otherwise noted.
A light breakfast and lunch will be provided.

Objectives

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  1. Recognize the general recommendations for childhood and adolescent immunizations;
  2. Explain the vaccine requirements for child care and school entry in the State of Maryland;
  3. Recognize the general recommendations for  adult and healthcare worker immunizations
  4. Describe vaccine contraindications and precautions;
  5. Identify safe and effective vaccine administration techniques;
  6. Understand Maryland Vaccines for Children Program policy and regulations;
  7. Recognize proper vaccine storage and handling techniques; and
  8. Identify sources of reliable immunization information.

Intended Audience

  1. Physicians;
  2. Nurses;
  3. Nurse Practitioners;
  4. Physician Assistants;
  5. Paraprofessionals;
  6. Pharmacists;
  7. Health Educators; and
  8. Health professionals who either administer vaccines or set policy for their offices, clinics, or communicable disease or infection control programs.

Registration

Complete and return the registration form via fax to 410-333-5893 .  A separate registration form is required for each participant.  Please do not submit one form for multiple individuals in the same practice.

Continuing Education

Nursing - This continuing nursing education activity was approved by the Maryland Nurses Association, an accredited provider by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation. This activity is approved for 3 contact hours.
